In an attempt to bring things up to date I thought that I would just give a brief account of a few things we have done recently. Towards the end of April was Rita's Birthday we came up with several ideas for a special treat, but the one that won out was a trip to visit the elephants.

It was beautiful day for a trip into the mountains, not too hot.

We watched as the elephants worked with their handlers to move logs and construct a wall. also the elephants played game's like soccer and darts. Painted pictures, yes you read it correctly, the elephants like to paint. The pictures they produced were very good, people would purchase them to have framed and hung on a wall back home.

If anyone would like to see more pictures just ask and we will send them via e-mail. Rita really enjoyed her ride high up on the back of one of these huge creatures.

I think had I have let her she would have liked to bring one of the baby elephants home to keep as a pet!!!!!

Around Chiang Mai there a many markets which operate both during the daytime and in the evenings (night markets). We have been to most of them and tend to prefer the night markets when it is not so hot. Sometimes we go out to dinner, after which we like to stroll around the stalls. Thai silks, clothes, electronic items, crafts, household decorative items, and touristy things. All along side the fake Rollex watches, designer wear and other items. But I am forgetting the main thing food, cooked and ready to eat right there on the street everywhere you look someone is cooking something.

It would seem that most Thai's do not cook at home, there is such an abundance of food items cooked along the curbside. Some of the homes we have seen do not even have a kitchen. The thing is for us as foreigners, do we trust to eat these foods prepared and cooked in very unhygeneic conditions? The answer is no, many tourist who have this notion 'when in Rome'...., end up spending days of their vaction in the restroom feeling so sick they want to die. We have tried to be somewhat causious and for the most part not suffered with the tourist syndrome. We do have a nice kitchen and experiment with different foods. Eating out is not expensive and we select our restuarants carefully.

Finally a picture of Rita looking for plants to have around the yard. Our home is starting to look very tropical with all of the plants we have purchased. I guess I should take some more pictures.

Well thats it for this one, I know Rita has one prepared about her new vocation. Still there are other things to write about yet and we hope to continue to add more, soon.
