Well here we are in Thailand.
Still getting sorted, getting used to all the differences, the sounds, the smells, and the tastes. Life here is not as different as some would think, yet different enough to make it interesting. We landed two weeks ago this coming Friday and apart from the adjustment needed in sleep patterns we have not slowed down. Each day found a new area of Bangkok to explore during the first few days then traveling by overnight sleeper train we arrived in Chiang Mai last Friday. We stayed in Chiang Mai through the weekend and explored that city. Prior to our arrival we knew that Chiang Mai was a city that held interest for us, and there was a decision to be made. Would we choose to live in Bangkok or Chiang Mai? Bangkok is very vibrant and alive with the excitement of Thailand's young adults. The City that never sleeps is very applicable to Bangkok, whereas the second city Chiang Mai has more of a laid back feel to it. Laid back, not dead by an stretch of the imagination with I believe eight universities, day markets, and night markets. Yes it has its night life and tourist attractions, but it seems to move at a little slower pace. Anyway, Chiang Mai came up as the winner for us, we love it. So as of the beginning of next month (April) we will take up residency in our newly leased home in Chiang Mai.

This picture was taken on Sunday night of the front of the property. We were due to catch the train back to Bangkok first thing Monday morning so other photoes will follow later. The house is lovely inside, four bedrooms and three bathrooms, large formal living room, family room and den. A good size kitchen, and large covered car port. We are well pleased with this find. As mentioned before the journey to Chiang Mai was on the overnight sleeper, but our return journey was planned during the day time so that we could see the land and scenery. Mountains, valleys, flatland, bamboo and other tropical forest type vegetation and trees, rice paddies, towns and villages. In someways it was nothing like I had imagined it to be, and on the other hand I'm not sure what I expected. Maybe I had thought it to be more like areas of China. So our direction is set towards Chiang Mai, but for now we have some time to continue exploring Baangkok, and possibly make a run South to these world famous beaches.
